L-driver in ton-up road chase jailed

A LEARNER driver was yesteday jailed after he sped through a tunnel at 100mph while being chased by police.

Rahiah Powell-Grant was flagged down but sped off, jumping red lights and swerving for 30 minutes before he was stopped.

The father-to-be, 21, had no driving licence or insurance in Medway, Kent, in the early hours of New Year's Day.

He hit 100mph in the Medway Tunnel in an attempt to escape because he was on licence from prison.

Powell-Grant, from nearby Strood, admitted dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance when he appeared before Medway magistrate­s on January 2.

The case was sent to Maidstone Crown Court, where he was jailed for a year and banned from driving for 22 months.

Recorder Mark Van Der Zwart said PowellGran­t could have ploughed into revellers.
