Council should bin unfair littering fines clampdown

WELL I hope Cambridge City Council is really proud of itself, ridding the streets of another fly-tipper in the form of a grandmother who was trying to do the right thing by placing cardboard neatly beside a full bin (“My £240 fine for leaving box by overflowing bin”, February 21).

Did you hear that, Cambridge City Council? Your bin was full.

In other words, you are not doing your job properly by emptying the bin often enough.

The countryside is littered with refuse, dumped by contemptuous, nasty people but you could see that this lady was a soft touch and guessed that she wouldn’t have the wherewithal to fight back.

Shame on you, Cambridge City Council. Rescind this fine immediately. Bob Jarvis, Billericay, Essex
