DOCTOR WHO newcomer Pearl Mackie has been slammed for not being up on the sci- fi show’s trivia.

Die- hard fans of the show criticised the 29- year- old, who plays Bill – the sidekick to Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord on the 10th series, for not knowing what fuel powers the engine of the Tardis.

She said during a recent interview that it was space engine oil, which infuriated viewers, some of whom vented on Twitter to correct her. “It’s energy from the rift! Research!” tweeted one. While several stated: “Come on. This is not a good start. It’s artron energy. Embarrassing!”

However, the actress is perhaps being true to her character, who occasionally puts her foot in it.

She said of Bill: “Sometimes she doesn’t think before she speaks which sometimes gets her into a bit of trouble.”
