UK doesn’t want anyone chasing a free meal ticket
SO Philip Hammond claims a reduction of new arrivals into Britain could damage the economy and undermine job creation (“We can’t shut down immigration after EU exit, says Hammond”, June 21).
I’m sure I am not alone when I say British people would agree to accepting immigrants who are prepared to work and make a contribution to the economy.
What people do not want are immigrants, legal or illegal, that undermine Britain’s social infrastructure by creating turmoil in the employment market, not to mention burdening our NHS, social services, schools and housing.
Besides that, there are the criminal elements in immigration to contend with, such as drug dealers, rapists and murderers.
I say to Mr Hammond, your job is to assist Theresa May getting Britain out of the EU. Once you have achieved that, then you can deal with the above issues.
