Shaqiri shaker for Stoke fans

- Steve Madeley

SWANSEA are hopeful of signing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on loan.

The two clubs are in discussions over a deal for the 19-year-old, right, who is at the Under-21 Championship finals with England.

Swansea seem well placed to beat off interest from other clubs, including Newcastle and Brighton, for the youngster. STOKE face a fight to keep their playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri if Roma make a move.

The Serie A side are weighing up a swoop for the Swiss to replace Liverpool-bound Mo Salah. Shaqiri, 25, played in Italy for Inter Milan before moving to the Potteries in 2015.

Roma are expected to bring in around £35million for Salah, who is close to sealing a move to Merseyside. They believe Shaqiri could be an ideal replacement, although Stoke will be desperate to keep their fans’ favourite. Bojan seems likely to leave Stoke this summer after falling out of favour.

His departure would leave Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic as the key creative players for boss Mark Hughes.

Hughes is also hoping to tie his captain Ryan Shawcross to a new deal. And the Potters are targeting a permanent deal for Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi.

Hughes has already signed midfielder Darren Fletcher on a free transfer from West Brom. ●NEWCASTLE goalkeeper Matz Sels is set to end an unhappy spell at St James’ Park with a season-long loan back to his native Belgium with Anderlecht.
