Corrie legend Liz on the road to recovery

- By Chris Riches

CORONATION Street star Liz Dawn was said to be feeling “quite chipper” last night after fighting back from a sudden serious illness.

The 77-year-old actress, who played Vera Duckworth for 34 years, was rushed to hospital last week with fluid on the lungs and heart problems. The former heavy smoker has had the lung condition emphysema for several years.

Family and friends have kept a bedside vigil and Liz has been cheered by get-well wishes from Corrie stars such as Samia Ghadie and Alan Halsall. Last night Liz’s spokesman Barry McManus confirmed she is on the mend and vows to recover to meet her recently-born greatgrandson. He said: “Liz is recovering in hospital and is quite chipper.” Liz’s grandson, Luke Ibbotson, and his wife Nicola had a baby boy last week. In 2013 Liz had a pacemaker fitted after suffering a heart attack while on holiday in Spain.
