BMW I3S

BMW will hope to capitalise on the halo effect of its i8, with a new breathed-on i3s. As well as revealing a new look for the standard model and range extender, BMW uncovered a tuned version with 181bhp, lower suspension and sportier looks. Also available in range extender mode, with a petrol engine acting as a generator to recharge the battery, the i3s will hit 60mph in 6.7 seconds.

SMART VISION EQ

Drivers will be able to look forward to a fully autonomous option of the Smart car with zero emissions if the maker gives its Vision EQ concept the green light. Smart says that by 2030 most people will share ownership of vehicles, like this concept car, rather than own them and it is heavily investing in its Car2Go programme to cater for the demand.

HONDA CR-V HYBRID

The CR-V is the first volume hybrid model from Honda since the Jazz. It features a 2.0-litre iVTEC petrol engine and two electric motors – one powers the front wheels, another acts as a range extender to recharge the batteries. It works out how to use fuel and electric energy the most efficiently, switching between EV, hybrid and engine drive when needed.
