Louise breaks silence over her ‘hard times’ with Jamie
LOUISE Redknapp admitted yesterday to “hard times” in her marriage to ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp and said that stepping back into the limelight in Strictly Come Dancing kept her going.
Louise, 42, reached the final of last year’s competition and revived her career after spending 12 years as a fulltime mother to sons Charley, 13, and Beau, eight.
The former singer with girl band Eternal is about to start a nationwide tour in a stage production of Cabaret.
But she and Jamie, 44, have been dogged by rumours that the attention and new-found confidence that she found through Strictly created friction in their 19-year marriage.
She said: “I think it’s been so heavily documented. Of course we all go through hard times.
“My priority and his priority are our children – protecting them and keeping as much of it as private as possible, loving them and putting them first. That’s really what we’re focusing on.”
Louise insisted that Strictly and her starring role as nightclub singer Sally Bowles – the part made famous by Liza Minnelli – has been good for her.
She added: “‘I’ve been being at home for 12 years, being a mum. Going back to work has been a real saviour for me.
“Doing Strictly does something to you – going back on stage every night, getting the opportunity again.
“Because you never know – in this business opportunities don’t come along so you have to hope.
“To have the opportunity to work and be out there – I’m loving doing that.”
Louise said her stage role is daunting. “The nerves don’t go,” she said. “It has enlightened my love of performing.”
The Redknapps’ marriage reportedly broke down in July. She was seen at a always Jamie Redknapp and wife Louise pictured in Berlin last year. It has been suggested that her Strictly fame put a strain on their marriage, which is reported to have broken down in July this year number of glamorous events with model Daisy Lowe, 28, who she met on Strictly.
Then Louise took her sons on holiday in Mallorca while her husband stayed in London filming a new series of TV panel show A League Of Their Own.
And fans recently spotted that Louise had been cropped out of her husband’s profile picture on Instagram.
