Gum care can save lives
TREATING gum disease may prevent a heart attack or stroke by lowering blood pressure.
Intensive treatment “significantly lowered” blood pressure in at-risk Chinese patients, according to a study. Blood pressure was compared after standard and intensive treatment – cleaning to the roots of the teeth under anaesthesia, antibiotics and extractions – at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong. Standard treatment made no difference, according to the findings presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in California.
