PICKS OF THE DAY
Reality: The Apprentice, 9pm, BBC1
Those responsible for putting together the group of candidates on this show each year always seem to strike the right balance between hopeless folk who should be nowhere near the contest, overly confident motor mouths and those with actual business acumen. Tonight, the remainder of this year’s gaggle have to create advertising campaigns for a new car, splitting into two teams – one half producing a TV ad and the other creating a digital billboard.
Documentary: The Moors Murderers Left Me For Dead 10pm, Channel 5
This two-part documentary features the harrowing testimonies of people like Terry West, Terry Kilbride, Tommy Ratigan, David Gray and Bernard King (all above) who came into contact with and managed to escape from Moors murderer Ian Brady in the 1960s. Relatives and friends of Brady and Myra Hindley’s victims also share their memories.
Drama: Peaky Blinders, 9pm, BBC2
Here it is, the long-awaited fourth series of Peaky Blinders. Almost 18 months after the conclusion of series three, Tommy Shelby and the gang are back for six brand new episodes. Tommy receives a strange letter on Christmas Eve 1925 and it dawns on him that his entire family are in danger of decimation, despite his new-found and unprecedented legitimacy. As the enemy closes in, he flees his country house and returns to the only safe place he knows – Small Heath, Birmingham, where the family must find a way to put differences aside, take up arms and fight for survival. Cillian Murphy (left, with young Jenson Clarke as Charles Shelby) is at his brilliant best as he returns to the role of Tommy.
Animals: The Secret Life Of The Zoo, 8pm, C4
Last night we got to take a sneak peak at the secret lives of four year olds and tonight we get the chance to do something similar with the animal kingdom. In the first of a new series, Black rhino Kitani (above left) is due to give birth at Chester Zoo and help swell the ranks of this endangered species. But having lost three previous calves, it is a worrying time and the keepers are concerned things are not going to plan.
Soap: Emmerdale, 7pm, ITV
When making a big decision, people should always consider the ramifications of their actions on others. Sadly, Paddy and Chas forget all about that as they agree to tell everyone they are together. What about the impact the news will have on poor Rhona (Zoe Henry, right)? Elsewhere, Pollard is evasive when pressed over the plans for the golf course while Moira is on edge as looking after Isaac on her own begins to take its toll.
