Living in the moment
John Lewis is already on the case and its latest capsule collection – V&A Inspired, John Lewis Designed – has its first own-design wallpaper that creates a Japanese mural of cranes flying above frothing waves.
“Japanese design has always been hugely influential but it definitely seems to be having a moment right now,” says head of design Philippa Prinsloo, from John Lewis’s Home department, who adds: “It seems to be moving from seasonal trend into something more permanent.”
The good news for those who like Scandinavian interiors is that the two styles work well together. “Japanese design shares qualities with the simplicity of Scandinavian design,” explains Prinsloo.
