I fled ‘sex pest’ Douglas in tears, says his former aide

She also alleged that he used sexual language in front of her, including discussing extramarital affairs and that he commented on her body, which prompted her to wear loose, dark clothing.

She said: “He thought he was the king of the world and that he could humiliate me without any repercussion. I realised he thought he could do anything he wanted because he was so much more powerful than I was.”

Ms Braudy said she was terrified to speak out at the time but confided in several friends, who urged her to stay quiet.

She finished working for him later that year.

In a statement issued 11 days ago, Douglas, 73, who is married to British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, said: “This is a complete lie, fabrication, no truth to it whatsoever.”

He added that he “felt the need to get ahead” of the situation and to share his “concerns” before a story was published.

He said his lawyer alerted him in December to plans by a media outlet to run a story about the then unnamed woman’s claims.

Douglas said the woman was also alleging he “blackballed” her so she couldn’t get another job after he sacked her.

He said the unfounded allegations against him risked setting back the “Me Too” movement that has grown in the wake of the Hollywood sexual harassment scandal which started in October with actress Rose McGowan accusing producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault.

“I pride myself on my reputation in this business,” said Douglas’s statement. “I don’t have skeletons in my closet, or anyone else who’s coming out or saying this. I’m bewildered why, after 32 years, this is coming out now.”

Ms Braudy said she was not surprised by Douglas’s denial. “These are some reasons why so many women don’t come forward with their stories. Lord knows it’s taken 30 years and a movement for me to gather courage,” she said.

Ms Braudy’s claims were in The Hollywood Reporter, which claimed to have seen a detailed written account of her with Douglas.

The account was said to have been based on notes and files she kept, including a 1993 letter from the California Women’s Law Centre about remedies for sexual harassment in the workplace.

She said she felt the process outlined to her was too intimidating to go through and she did not make an official complaint. alleged experience
