Father of missing Suzy Lamplugh dies aged 87

- By Michael Knowles

THE father of murdered estate agent Suzy Lamplugh died yesterday with the mystery of her disappearance unsolved.

Suzy, 25, vanished in July 1986 after leaving her office to show a man known only as “Mr Kipper” around a house in Fulham, west London.

Her body was never found and she was officially declared dead in 1994.

Awful

Paul Lamplugh died yesterday morning aged 87, surrounded by his three remaining children after battling Parkinson’s disease.

A family spokesman said: “Dad celebrated a wonderful 87th birthday party, surrounded by friends and family, just two weeks ago, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“In the end he went very peacefully and will be greatly missed not just by our family, but by his many friends.”

Mr Lamplugh and his wife Diane were appointed OBEs in 2004 after setting up the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to protect people from violence.

In 2016 Mr Lamplugh, from East Sheen, west London, admitted he “had to accept” the awful realisation he would never know who killed his daughter.

He added: “Suzy was a confident young woman. She had worked on the QE2 as a hairdresser, travelling the world, and she knew how to manage herself. The problem was she hadn’t been taught how to keep herself safe.

“The older I get, the more I miss her.”

Police declared in 2002 that they believed serial rapist and killer John Cannan had murdered Suzy but did not have enough evidence to convict him. He has denied any involvement.

Refused

But, speaking two years ago, Mr Lamplugh refused to say if he thought Cannan was responsible.

He said: “It was a good lead. “It may be right – I don’t know. The fact is, she is never going to come back – and that is the way it is.”
