IS ROBBIE RIGHT TO SING AT THE WORLD CUP?

-

Yes

I CAN’T believe all the fuss about a former Take That singer with a dwindling career taking the chance to perform in front of the world (“Forgiving Russians invite Robbie to kickstart World Cup”, June 12).

For Robbie Williams, this is the chance to revisit the big time and no doubt give his record sales a massive boost.

There has been a lot of political posturing in the run-up to the competition but singers are entertainers, not politicians.

Concentrate on what you do best, Robbie. And give us all a show to remember. Jason Dawson, Warrington, Cheshire

No

ROBBIE Williams has demonstrated such double standards that he left even an old cynic like me lost for words.

Was he just pretending to have a social conscience when he wrote Party Like A Russian, criticising the country and its oligarchs?

Now, just a few years later, he’s presumably been offered a big, fat cheque to perform at the opening of the World Cup and it’s a case of, “Yes, no problem, what time do you want me to start?”

It always irritates me when pop stars try to get involved in politics and this is a prime example of why. Andrea Wilkinson,
