Slash benefits and watch migrant trail evaporate

I JUST cannot understand why the Government choses to spend millions of pounds to prevent illegal immigration (“‘Cover-up’ over bill for stopping illegal migrants”, February 9).

Surely it is patently obvious how to control it, put people traffickers out of business and secure our borders in one fell swoop while saving millions.

Simply offer migrants the same benefits as our European neighbours. After all, why would they come to the cold, wet UK if they could get the same benefits in the south of France or Spain? Dave Croft, Sheffield
