Austin avoids ban

- JULIE STOTT

BLAKE AUSTIN has escaped suspension for a tackle that put Joel Tomkins in hospital with concussion.

Warrington’s marquee player was sin-binned for his challenge on the grounded Tomkins in Saturday’s 28-14 win over Hull KR. Tomkins was described as “very sick” by coach Tim Sheens but was released from hospital later that day.

A match review panel decided there was no further action to take against Austin. It is the third time in two games his tackling technique has been studied by the panel without any charge being brought.

Leeds forward Mikolaj Oledzki also faces no charge following an alleged biting incident on Wigan’s Sam Powell.

But Hull prop Scott Taylor will be banned for three matches after being found guilty of two separate dangerous tackles in his side’s defeat by Castleford.
