Police step in after protesters clash
POLICE had to intervene last night as Remainers grappled with two people carrying a “Brexit Now” banner at a demonstration in Westminster.
Thousands of people had turned out to protest against plans to suspend Parliament in rallies in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester and Bristol within hours of Boris Johnson’s announcement. At Westminster, crowds blocked traffic and some staged a sit-down protest in Parliament Square chanting “stop the coup”.
But two men carrying the “Brexit Now” banner were grabbed.
Simon Hindmarsh, 47, from West Yorkshire, helped carry it.
He said: “I’m a Leftie, we’re not all Tommy Robinson supporters.”
