It is right we go through that level of questioning and scrutiny and I always welcome that, but I still think this is the right thing to do.

I accept this might not be the right decision for all forces but given the make-up of mine and the level of assaults on my officers, it is the right thing for us to do.

The police are there to work with communities to help set the social norms. But when there is an attack on those people charged with the responsibility of maintaining the Queen’s peace, yes, I do take that really personally.

What we have done is create a sea-change and it is a fundamental one.
