Cowboy builders trashed our home

A COUPLE are devastated after a gang of cowboy builders took over their home while they were away, sleeping in their bed and using the garden as a toilet.

Delia and Mick Cunningham were shocked to find the rogue workmen had not only botched their £34,000 renovation job but effectivel­y moved in after four days.

To make matters worse, they allege a second company they employed also made a hash of the work. The couple say they are still living on a building site more than seven months later.

The company Marek KBI told the Cunningham­s it would take five weeks to do structural repairs, so they went to stay with their son when work began in February. allege the second company employed to fix the mess – Choice – was no better.

Mrs Cunningham said: “We’ve had independen­t people come out and tell us the whole thing needs tearing down and doing again. We’ve spent £22,000 and got this mess to show for it.”

Marek Buza, former director of the now-defunct Marek KBI, said he was “deeply sorry” for the way the home was treated.

The company has been reported to Trading Standards and the couple are also considerin­g reporting Your Choice.

Yadwinder Gill, director of Your Choice, said: “We would be happy to sit down and draw up another contract and crack on with the job. The majority of problems were caused by previous work and we were in the process of trying to put that right.” they Your
