Act now to unmask the domestic monsters
MINISTERS are being urged to warn the public of a complex behavioural disorder, in the battle against domestic abuse.
Campaigners say narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) must be included in the Government’s new Domestic Abuse Bill.
People with NPD show persistent grandiosity, excessive need for admiration and a personal disdain and lack of empathy for others.
They can seek to establish abusive power and control, which in some cases can lead to domestic violence or coercive and manipulative behaviour. Campaigner Robyn Thackra, who has experience of NPD, is urging all parties to do more to highlight NPD and will meet Victims Minister Victoria Atkins today.
Ms Thackra, who also wants to raise awareness with an “unmaskthenarc” campaign, said: “This is a cross-party, human issue that deserves the full attention of the media and politicians.”
