THREE KINGS in one glorious family portrait
...plus Queen Mary’s dolls’ house, family snaps of the doomed Romanovs and a fob watch given by a fleeing Charles II – these bizarre treasures are all in Her Majesty’s collection
Over the past ten centuries, since William the Conqueror was crowned King of England in 1066, our monarchs have built up the priceless store of art, antiquities and treasures that is the Royal Collection.
Now its story is traced in a new book by art historian Michael Hall, which accompanies a four-part documentary, Art, Passion & Power: The Story Of The Royal Collection that will air as part of a special season on the BBC this month. And here, in the second part of our series, we bring you more dazzling highlights from the collection, which comprises 5,500 paintings as well as tapestries, ceramics, textiles, clocks and books – many of which adorn the 13 royal residences in the UK.
