MATT MONRO (1930-1985). The Londonborn bus driver, real name Terry Parsons, became one of Britain’s finest balladeers with songs such as From Russia With Love and Born Free. Beatles producer George Martin said Monro, known as the Man with the Golden Voice, was the best singer he ever worked with. MARIE TUSSAUD ( 1761- 1850). The Strasbourg-born wax modeller came to Britain during the French Revolution and began touring the country with her waxwork collection, before opening a permanent display in London. Years earlier, her head had been shaved in preparation for the guillotine, but she was saved by one of the French Revolutionary leaders who knew her.
