Imposter calling
HOUSEHOLDS are being urged to beware of imposter cold callers claiming to be from Citizens Advice. If you suspect a scam, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
Fraudster jailed
A FINANCIAL adviser has lost an appeal against a ten-year prison sentence. The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence given to Phillip Boakes, who defrauded investors of £ 3.5 million through a giant Ponzi scheme.
Landline hike
EE HAS increased its landline prices for new customers by 6.7 pc to £17.50 a month. Any existing customers midway through a contract will not be affected until they renew their deal.
Energy bills cut
ENERGY minnow GB Energy Supply has reduced the cost of its variable gas and electricity tariff to an average £787 a year.
But for just £ 12 more a year, households can protect against future price hikes with Extra Energy’s Bright Fixed Price Dec 2016 deal.
Over-50s cover
POST Office Money has launched a car insurance premium for the over-50s.
It includes uninsured driver protection in case the policyholder has a non-fault accident and a promise to protect your no-claims bonus and excess in the event of a vandalism claim.
Card boost
VIRGIN Money has re-launched its 40-month, interest-free credit card. It is available to sign up to until December 16 and has a balance transfer fee of 2.99 pc.
The firm has also launched a card with 18 months interest-free and no balance transfer fee.
Remortgages up
RECORD low loan rates saw eight in ten households switch to a new lender for a remortgage deal in November, figures from property services company LMS show — a new high.
Almost a third used the cheap offers to reduce their monthly payments, in some cases by more than £500.
0pc for longer
THE length of average interest-free periods on purchases for credit cards has risen by 70 pc since 2012, according to comparison site GoCompare.
Borrowers can now avoid paying interest for up to 27 months, compared with a maximum of 16 in 2012.
PPI deadline
A £42 MILLION ad campaign warning of a deadline for payment protection insurance claims is to be funded by the financial firms that have received the most complaints against them.
Last week’s consultation launched by the Financial Conduct Authority set out its plans for a time-barred deadline in 2018.
