Brexit ‘would benefit Russia’

LEAVING the EU would have a ‘devastating’ impact and play into the hands of Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the chief of the London Stock Exchange has claimed.

Xavier Rolet said Brexit could trigger the ‘implosion’ of the entire European political project, possibly prompting US intervention on the continent.

‘I think this would be a geo- political event that would reverberate way beyond the European Union,’ he told the Daily Telegraph.

Mr Rolet also claimed the US would be reluctant to allow the EU to fall apart.

‘The gaze of the United States would have to move back towards Europe, with a view to putting Humpty Dumpty back together again,’ he said.
