POT YOUR PINKS

-

IF YOU took cuttings from pinks during summer, they’ll have rooted by now.

Check them for signs of growth or tug them gently to detect whether they have grown roots.

Turn out the pots of cuttings and separate the young plants.

Pot those up for overwintering in an open coldframe or sheltered spot. Alternatively, plant rooted cuttings in a border, or line them out in a bed.

You don’t have to keep them in a greenhouse for winter — they’re fully hardy. If, like me, you root your cuttings directly in the ground, check up on them now. Make sure they’re not being smothered by neighbouring plants. And if you wish to transplant them, do that, too.
