ELSWORTH’S MASTER CLASS
DAVID ELSWORTH is no stranger to springing a surprise in the Cambridgeshire and MASTER
THE WORLD (Newmarket, nap, 4.10) could follow Spanish Don and Lear Spear by landing today’s prestigious handicap. In truth, the selection should have won last year as he was nicely clear inside the final furlong, only to hang away his chance in the dying strides to allow Third Time Lucky to pick his pocket. That must have been a bitter pill to swallow for veteran trainer Elsworth, especially as he likes nothing more than proving his critics wrong. However, his talented but enigmatic five-year-old has the opportunity to gain compensation 12 months on and the selection looks nicely drawn to go one better. Examiner, a place behind in third last year, looks another with a major chance, while Celestial Path appears a dangerous prospect along the stands’ rail with the cheekpieces on for the first time.
