Superbugs can be defeated by a simple salty door knob
A DOOR knob made of salt has been developed to stop superbugs spreading in hospitals.
When the University of Alberta in Canada compared the door knob with one made of copper (a natural antimicrobial) to check its effectiveness against MRSA, the salt destroyed the bug three times faster.
After a minute, 94 per cent of the bacteria had been killed. Now a prototype, called Outbreaker and made entirely of salt, has been installed in hospitals in Alberta.
