Beaten cyclist ‘ran red light’
A CYCLIST was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being beaten to the ground for jumping a red light.
Witnesses said the man was attacked by a motorcyclist who left the scene as his bleeding victim suffered a seizure.
The cyclist was flown to a London hospital by helicopter after the incident in Rochester, Kent, yesterday morning.
Police sealed off the pavement outside a pub close to the 103-year-old Rochester Bridge in the historic town centre.
One witness, who did not wish to be named, said a cyclist jumped a red light before a motorcyclist got off his bike and started hitting him.
The man fell to the ground and had what appeared to be a seizure.
Witnesses said a member of the public put the victim into the recovery position while the motorcyclist drove off.
The attack happened outside The Crown pub – a few hundred yards from Rochester Cathedral. The pub tweeted: ‘Open as usual! Incident outside is nothing to do with pub.’
