Rippon: I failed drugs test ... but only because I ate poppy bread

ANGELA rippon tested positive for opiates after eating poppy seed bread, the TV host said yesterday.

Her results had traces of morphine, which is derived from opium, after the 72-year-old, pictured, ate the loaf and a poppy seed bagel over three days.

The experiment came after a contributor to her BBC1 show rip off Britain: Food told how he was fired from his job at a power station after a routine drug test showed opiates in his system. He realised the result must have been caused by poppy seed bread he’d eaten.

in the show, which exposes rip-offs and issues identified by viewers, Miss rippon explained how drugs tests had become more common in workplaces where staff drive, operate machinery or are involved in public safety.
