Woods blames driving arrest on painkillers
TIGER Woods was found asleep at the wheel by police with the engine of his £170,000 Mercedes running it emerged yesterday.
The golfer, 41, who is recovering from back surgery, was arrested for driving under the influence but insisted alcohol was not involved and blamed ‘an unexpected reaction’ to four prescribed painkillers. He was woken by five officers at 3am on Monday in Jupiter, Florida and had ‘extremely slow and slurred speech’, police said.
Woods, pictured in his police mugshot, was ‘cooperative’ but ‘confused’ and failed four out of five sobriety tests although there was no alcohol on his breath.
He apologised yesterday, saying: ‘I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. Alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.’
