Elephant in the room
THERESA MAY called the snap General Election believing she would sail through with a large majority, mainly because of the absence of an effective Opposition.
The millions she might save with her stealth imposition on pensioners of a ‘dementia tax’ is nothing compared to the billions wasted on overseas aid. I have not heard a whisper on the subject from any of the politicians interviewed on TV — talk about the elephant in the room.
In my mind, the Brexit vote was as much about the EU human rights legislation as it was about immigration. In fact, the two are inextricably linked. Being unable to deport people is just as bad as not being able to stop them coming in.
If Mrs May wants to win a majority on Thursday, she should publicly address these issues as a matter of urgency.
