Life’s too short to waste it being an old miser!

-

I HAVE to respond to Liz Hodgkinson, who says she’s proud to be an old miser despite the fact she’s wealthier than she’s ever been (Femail). If you think old, you will be old. I am not 70 — I am 16 with 54 years of experience. I live in a wonderful area in a modern home that is certainly not worth millions, but I feel comfortably off. I am pleased the winter fuel payment might no longer apply to people such as me and will go to someone who really needs it. I have private health insurance, but the treatment I received from the NHS seven years ago when I had cancer was exemplary. I travel regularly at home and abroad. I see friends socially — that’s when we can coordinate our diaries, as all the ‘old’ people I know are busy spending their savings like me, not holding on to their money in the hope of hanging on to life a bit longer. The energy and time — which we don’t have — that must go into saving so much money must be enormous and tiring. Get out there, Liz, live whatever life you have to the full. There are no pockets in a shroud.
