Shine on you crazy driver! Pink Floyd star’s girl escapes unscathed from 50mph crash

Her father is a motor-racing fanatic who recently diced with death at the wheel of a £3million supercar.

And now Holly Mason, the daughter of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, has also walked away from a dramatic crash.

Miss Mason flipped her pink Austin A35 twice as she took a corner at 50mph during a practice drive at the Silverstone track in Northamptonshire. The 42-year-old, who is married to Scottish racing driver Marino Franchitti, was pulled out of the £40,000 car unscathed.

Witness Barry Pomfret said: ‘The car rolled over twice and came to a halt on its side, so it was fairly dramatic. It would have been like being in a washing machine. The medical team was on the scene quickly. They had to bring the car back on to its four wheels before getting Holly out.’ It is understood Miss Mason was practising for next month’s Silverstone Classic, an annual three-day event showcasing historic cars.

In March, her father – the only member of Pink Floyd to have appeared on all 15 of the band’s studio albums – had a scare when his McLaren F1 GTr skidded off the track at the Goodwood circuit in Sussex.

Nick Mason, 73, said last night: ‘What matters is that she’s OK. I’m hardly in a position to criticise – I did a lot more damage to the McLaren.

‘We are seriously considering taking up snooker as a family sport!’
