Is Matt about to get on one knee for Lily?
Cinderella star lily James reveals she’s set to have her own fairytale ending with actor Matt Smith.
The 28-year-old beauty, who has been dating the former doctor Who star for three years, attended the launch party for diamond specialist de Beers at Harrods in london, where she tried on potential engagement rings with Matt’s sister by her side.
‘ i’m dating her brother, and hopefully she will soon be my sister- in- law,’ lily said as she introduced cabaret dancer laura Jayne, 37, whose own wedding in italy lily attended last year.
lily, who shot to fame playing lady rose aldridge in downton abbey, giddily tried on several rings, including a 71-carat yellow oval-cut diamond solitaire which would set Matt back £7 million.
Fortunately for him, she expressed a preference for the 9.1 carat oval cut diamond aella ring, a snip at £200,000 (which she is pictured wearing, right).
‘This is the diamond that has found its way to my finger,’ she told me. ‘it’s very unique. i would definitely want something like this.’ Though she didn’t elaborate on her wedding plans with Matt, 34, with whom she lives in london, the Surrey-born actress admitted there is pressure within her family for her to settle down.
‘My granddad was a minister in the raF, and he used to get my grandma a piece of jewellery everywhere they went,’ she added.
‘She has this amazing collection, and there’s this gold charm bracelet that she added a little charm to from everywhere she’s been, and she said it’s for me but she’s not going to give it to me until i’m settled down.’
Her desire to become Mrs Smith may be the reason she recently pulled out of buying her first flat. ‘i almost bought my first flat, which would have been great,’ she explains, ‘but i chickened out at the last minute — it felt like such a big step, and it wasn’t quite right. i put a deposit down, and i lost money. i’m very indecisive.’
