...so time to pack a ‘hipnic’
AS the UK basks in glorious summer sun, families up and down the country will be digging out the wicker baskets.
But forget pork pies and soggy sandwiches – as 2017 is all about the ‘hip-nic’.
Retailers have seen sales of traditional picnic foods plummet as Britons experiment with trendy ‘hipster’ nibbles such as stuffed calamari and tequila-infused prawns. Even the old classics have been given a makeover, with Marks & Spencer now offering pork, feta and pine kernel sausage rolls.
And Waitrose has seen a 45 per cent surge in its World Deli range – where options include chipotle chilli olives, diced Iberico cheese and katsu chicken pastries.
