Thousands of Tesco shoppers hit by home delivery glitch

- By Sean Poulter Consumer Affairs Editor

THOUSANDS of Tesco customers had their grocery deliveries cancelled after a computer meltdown.

The glitch early yesterday meant many branches of Britain’s biggest supermarket could not access online orders, leaving shoppers fuming.

Tesco is offering all affected customers a voucher worth £10. With around 10 per cent of yesterday’s deliveries held up, this will rack up a bill running into the tens of thousands.

Shoppers waiting at home for deliveries said they had not been informed their orders had been cancelled and were unimpressed with the offer of a £10 voucher.

one mother said this would not make up for having to take her three pre- school children around the shops on a hot day.

Several parents complained school sports day picnics had been ruined, while others said orders of drink and other provisions for this week’s Glastonbury festival had not arrived.

Normal service is expected to resume today and affected customers will be contacted to arrange new delivery dates.

Tesco said: ‘We’re working hard to fix this problem and apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause.’
