Robin who? Parents have stopped telling folk stories

-

FOLK stories like Robin Hood and King Arthur are in danger of dying out because parents aren’t passing them on to their children, it has emerged.

Researchers from Center Parcs carried out a study of 2,000 adults and found two-thirds have no intention of sharing the stories with their offspring – and one in four admitted they couldn’t name any folk tales at all.

A large percentage of those who were familiar with the story of Robin Hood said their knowledge was based on films and other media, rather than learning from their parents.

Despite there being thousands of stories which shaped British history, it was found that the average person can name just three. Folklore expert Jeremy Harte said: ‘Our rich folkloric tradition may be slipping through our fingers, which is deeply saddening.’
