Royal insult

-

hOw can Penny Junor stoop so low as to write all those accusations about the late Princess diana. Camilla made up her mind to become the third person in their marriage right from the start.

It beggars belief to read that Camilla’s friends told her to ‘save’ Charles from his marriage.

Yet Penny Junor asks us to feel sorry for this adulteress who is hugely responsible for diana’s torment and accusations that she was unstable. diana was far saner and more human than any of them. Mrs P. haWes, Wembley Middx. I’M a supporter of the monarchy, but I’m beginning to wonder about the future of the Royal Family, with its younger members yearning to be ordinary people.

Prince harry said he had wanted to get out, so let him. Let any of them

leave the Royal Family, if that is what they want. Give them a housing association flat and a job in a factory and see how they get on. We had Diana and Charles, now we have Camilla telling all. Is the butler next?

Delayed grief

When I read about Prince William and Prince harry grieving for their mother, I can understand: I lost my mother when I was 12.

As harry says, no child should have to walk behind their mother’s coffin with millions watching. The Queen wanted everything to be as normal as possible, but how could it? The boys should have been allowed to sob their little hearts out.

Unlike the princes, I was truly alone, as I had no brothers, sisters or father. But like them, I had to put on a brave face and shed no tears.

The price we pay for all that bottled-up sadness is that we never recover. I was not allowed to go to my mother’s funeral. I spent the time completely alone at an aunt’s house until they returned.

While waiting for them, I went into the front garden and a passing lady said to me: ‘You have lost your best friend, haven’t you?’

I did not cry then, but the memories make me weep now. Children need time to grieve WYN sauNders,

Greedy industry

FRAUDULENT claims arising from all- inclusive package holidays (Mail) are only part of the problem. The determination of the travel companies and hotels to control every single facet of the vacation business means it is increasingly difficult to find options such as B&B only, or even just a room.

We have had to abandon several resort hotels for this very reason.

All-inclusive holidays also starve local businesses, such as shops, cafes and restaurants, of much-needed income, and the offer of unlimited food and alcohol drags down the tone of any hotel — attracting visitors who simply want to eat and drink as much as possible.

Who ultimately pays for the fraudulent claims? The honest and moderate majority who only want to enjoy spending some time in a foreign resort.

I doubt if it would be the British. PeTer BeNNeTT, ilkley. W. Yorks.
