Parking mad! Shameless driver takes up FOUR bays for his car

- By Andy Dolan

IT’S hard enough to find a parking space at the best of times.

So spare a thought for the poor motorists who had to contend with the parking style of this particularly selfish driver.

Fabio Silva left his nine-yearold white Seat Leon across four bays in a town centre car park to make sure nobody could damage his pride and joy.

Not surprisingly, there was little sympathy for the 22-yearold after the image, along with another of the car across two bays, were shared online.

Indeed, many would say the student should pay four times the pay-and-display fee.

The Portuguese from Spalding, Lincolnshire, where the pictures were taken, called his critics ‘idiots’ last night. He told the Daily Mail: ‘The car cost me £7,000 when I bought it three years ago and I used to park normally.

‘But after having to have my bumpers repaired three times – costing in excess of £1,000 – I decided enough was enough and I would have to take preventative measures. I never thought it would cause this much controversy though.’

On Facebook, Mr Silva wrote to his detractors: ‘Start spending hundreds of pounds on your car and then you’ll understand where I’m coming from. Sorry for not wanting idiots ruining my pride and joy.’ Transport Department rules on the minimum size of parking spaces – at 5ft 11in (1.80m) – have not changed since 1994, but many cars have got bigger to comply with EU safety standards and to cope with larger passengers.
