Traders’ Brexit row
A PLOT to keep Remainers out of Parliament has infuriated investors in a City trading firm run by former Tory Party treasurer Michael Spencer. Nex Group gave £25,000 to five Conservative MPs who were in close races against Liberal Democrats at the general election – including the opponent of former Business Secretary Sir Vince Cable.
The cash was supposed to strengthen Theresa May’s hand in the Brexit negotiations by limiting Europhiles’ ability to meddle.
Although it did not break any rules, shareholder groups have panned the payments.
