60 swoon in the heat
SIXTY people were treated at Wimbledon yesterday for heatrelated conditions after temperatures soared to 31C (87.8F).
Spectators and players were left sweltering as the strong sun caused some courts to dry out.
French player Kristina Mladenovic, 2 , unsuccessfully tried to stop play due to the state of the grass on Court 18, where at ground level the mercury hit 3C.
As Juan Martin Del Potro took on Latvian Ernests Gulbis, two spectators fainted as the sun beat down on Court 3, which had little shade. Play was held up for 20 minutes as a woman in her 60s was carried away on a stretcher.
Temperatures today are not expected to hit the highs of yesterday, but at 28C (82F), medics recommend spectators remain covered and hydrated.
