If only the same could be said of the computers on which author Helen Fielding writes them. ‘I tend to get a new laptop when I start a new book,’ she admits. ‘It’s a bit of an extravagan­ce, but I really give it some hammer when I’m writing. ‘It’s not just the amount of stuff on it, it’s more the amount of goo in it. Things get spilt in it — ants get in it, coffee gets in it, chocolate gets in it.’ Ugh!
