Family’s late final charge

FATHER and son Neil and Charles Hammond are making a determined charge in the Daily Mail Foursomes after an emphatic win over Epsom put Woodcote Park through to the sixth round. The family pair played the wrong ball for the second shot on the first hole but quickly put that behind them. Three successive pars propelled them to five up to beat the visiting pair of Michael Dowdell and Mike Lower 6&5. Charles, 22, said: ‘Getting to the finals is the target. It seemed unrealistic before, but now there are only two more rounds. ‘It’s good playing with my dad. If I put him in a good position on the green he normally holes it.’ The pair hope their successful partnership will see them through to October’s finals at Marriott St Pierre.
