Commended policeman sent Minister abusive email

- By James Tozer

A CONSERVATIVE MP has reported a serving police officer for sending an abusive email, saying it left him feeling unable to rely on his local force.

Wales Office Minister Guto Bebb, 48, was emailed by constituent Eurwyn Thomas, a policeman commended for his bravery, expressing his disgust at Conservative support for the public sector pay cap.

Writing in Welsh, PC Thomas allegedly wrote that ‘as long as I have an a***hole I will work to get rid of you’. In response, Mr Bebb – also writing in Welsh – accused the officer of ‘talking out of his a***hole’. PC Thomas then posted the reply - which he branded ‘toecurling’ – on his personal Facebook page, where it was picked up by a local newspaper.

Now the MP for Aberconwy in North Wales has said he is writing to his chief constable about the PC’s conduct, saying it is just the latest abuse from his officers – including one who allegedly called him a ‘Tory ****’ on social media. Mr Bebb said he had ‘little doubt that his correspondence with me is in breach of the code of conduct for police officers which asks officers to act with political impartiality at all times’.

He added that he had been left with ‘no choice other than to formally write to the Chief Constable on this issue’.

He said that when his constituency home was twice targeted at 2am by intimidating protesters chanting, ‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn,’ but he had felt unable to call for help.
