HE is a Grammy-award winning superstar who headlined Glastonbury just last month.

So fans of Ed Sheeran may be confused to see him acting on TV, wearing full battle armour. But the 26-year-old singer, who is worth more than £50million, made a cameo appearance in the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

The Suffolk-born star sings, and speaks briefly, in the first episode of the seventh series of the hit US fantasy show, which aired last night. His character, who is not named, is seen singing around a campfire in the forest.

When Arya Stark, played by 20-year- old British actress Maisie Williams, rides past on horseback, she tells him, ‘It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before.’ The pop star replies: ‘It’s a new one.’ One of the show’s creators David Benioff said: ‘We tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie [who is a big fan of his], and this year we finally did it.’

The singer has also taken a stand against ticket touts by cancelling 10,000 tickets being sold at inflated prices. He acted after touts put hundreds of tickets on sale with some demanding more than ten times their face value.
