Behind bars, the married teacher who ‘had sex with boy pupil of 15’
A MARRIED female teacher is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old schoolboy.
Secondary school teacher Deborah Lowe, 53, is alleged to have groomed the teenager, with whom prosecutors say she became ‘infatuated’, while he was attending a school in Greater Manchester.
Blonde former air hostess Lowe, a mother-of-two who is separated from her husband, appeared via videolink at Stockport Magistrates Court yesterday. She was arrested last week and later charged with sexual activity with a boy under the age of 16 and abuse of a position of trust after police received a report of grooming in Cheadle, Greater Manchester.
Lowe, who wore a black leather jacket with a black jumper and blue jeans, spoke only to confirm that she was temporarily living at Elmsbed Caravan Park in Poynton,
Cheshire. She is accused of intentionally touching a boy aged 15, not reasonably believing he was 16 or over, between September 14 2014 and September 13 2015.
She also faces a charge of abusing a position of trust by being in a sexual relationship with a boy aged 16 between 15 September 2015 and 31 July 2016.
Tina Cunnane, prosecuting, said diary entries and text messages recovered by police showed Lowe had been ‘infatuated’ with her alleged victim.
The court heard that Lowe accepted having a sexual relationship with the teenager – who is now 17 and cannot be named for legal reasons – after he left school, but denied the two charges before her.
She was refused bail after the prosecution maintained that there were ‘ substantial grounds to believe she would interfere with witnesses’.
Lowe, supported by two men in the public gallery, was remanded in custody to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester on August 16.
