Mayhem as 6,000 party at ‘Scotland’s Magaluf’
THOUSANDS of rowdy, drinkfuelled teenagers descended on a small coastal town after a plan to meet at the beach on one of the hottest days of the year went viral on social media.
Police Scotland said more than 6,000 people, ‘some already under the influence’, visited Troon in Ayrshire on Monday as temperatures reached up to 27C (81F).
The Troon meet- up has become an annual event with the town being branded ‘Scotland’s Magaluf’. Drink and drugtaking in 2015 led to the beach being temporarily closed.
On Monday there were more than ten arrests and ‘significant quantities’ of alcohol were confiscated. There were reports of bottles thrown at police horses and several young people taken away in ambulances.
Troon businesswoman Donna Read posted on Facebook: ‘No one wants to stop young people having a good time but organised events like this on a mass scale need to be controlled.’
