Married teacher at jail had f ling with prisoner

- By Liz Hull

A married prison teacher who had a secret affair with an inmate was caught out when her husband found saucy photos and text messages to her lover.

Mother- of-two Jennifer Forshaw, 28, sent intimate ‘selfies’ in her underwear to prisoner Ian Howard, who spent hours talking to her on a mobile phone he obtained illegally inside.

Preston Crown Court heard that in one 18-day period during the eight-month romance they exchanged almost 200 texts and 23 calls.

Forshaw, pictured, was caught when husband Jonathan, 28 – by then separated from her – found images and texts on a mobile phone, and a romantic card from Howard.

The electrician went to category C HMP wymott, in Leyland, Lancashire, and told a security guard about the fling.

Forshaw was later arrested at work.

She admitted having a relationship with Howard, but denied anything physical.

Yesterday Forshaw, whose children are two and four, wept as she was jailed for 21 months after admitting misconduct in a public office.

Judge Ian Leeming QC told her: ‘ You grossly breached the trust placed in you by becoming heavily involved romantically … You sent him a very large number of texts and calls by phone which he received in prison. You took self photographs [sic], some of them in your underwear … You topped up the phone for the man concerned and he held a phone in custody illicitly – you took him the SIM.

‘These offences are very serious in nature. They undermine the prison discipline.’

The court heard the affair began in december 2015, a month after Howard was moved to the jail where Forshaw, who worked for Manchester College, gave English lessons. In February she and Mr Forshaw separated, though he was in the dark about the reasons until months later.

Robert dudley, prosecuting, said: ‘There were regular calls, text and call-forwarding communications between the defendant and Mr Howard … Several [calls] were over half an hour, one was over 45 minutes and one was over an hour.’

After her arrest, Forshaw was suspended from her job. But within hours of her release on bail, she bought a new mobile phone and continued talking with Howard until at least August 2, the court heard. She was arrested again three days later.
