Travellers dump 250 tons of rubbish in just weeks

- Daily Mail Reporter

A GROUP of travellers left more than 250 tons of rubbish after they were evicted from a field.

Bath tubs, refrigerators and mattresses were left strewn across the site in Bromley, south-east London.

It is believed it will cost the rightful landowners more than £100,000 to remove all of the waste.

The travellers set up camp in the field ear- lier this month – provoking protests from residents in the Bickley area.

They stayed for at least two weeks and a dozen vehicles could be seen at the site.

The landowners had to take out a private injunction before the group could be moved on. But on Thursday Bickley Police released a picture of the area with the caption: ‘The travellers have moved on from the site. Sadly they didn’t take their rubbish with them #flytipping.’

The photograph showed bricks, wood and bags of rubbish piled high and stretching out across the whole field near Bickley Manor and Blackbrook Lane.

The entrance to the site has now been padlocked and a skip can be seen blocking the gate to ensure no one else can drive in. Police the issue was being investigated by Bromley Council.

In April, residents of Laindon, Essex were incensed when travellers dumped 40 tons of rubbish outside a 13th century church in the picturesque village.

The 300ft-long trail of waste outside St Nicholas Church included the stripped out interior of a car, cabinets, broken crockery, mattresses and even human waste.
