Dettori hopes ‘grim’ diet will give an edge

- MARCUS TOWNEND

FRANKIE DETTORI is living off a ‘grim’ diet as he aims to make his lightest weight to ride Enable in Saturday’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Yesterday it was confirmed that John Gosden’s English and Irish Oaks winner will run in the £1.15million race. The filly will carry 8st 7lb and receive a stone from older rivals headed by Highland Reel and Ulysses. In the last seven years, Dettori has only ridden at 8st 7lb or less seven times. ‘I got allotted 8st 7lb in the King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes which is my bare minimum so I need to keep my weight down,’ he said. ‘My diet is boring at the moment — white fish, vegetables and water. It’s grim! ‘I rode Enable yesterday morning and she is full of herself.’
